Looking for something kid friendly but still glamorous? This all ages Caramel Apple Charcuterie Board is a cinch to pull together, easy to adapt, and visually gorgeous! Assemble it ahead of time for a fun evening and let everyone choose their own toppings!
Sometimes, desserts are just easier when everyone can pick what they want. Which is why Meg and I love charcuterie boards. They work great for small groups because they’re visually pleasing and because it allows everyone to create whatever they want. This caramel apple charcuterie board gives everyone the opportunity to custom make their own caramel apple wedges!
Bonus? The kids just see a candy platter, but we’re able to sneak in some fruit.
The round up below:
First, grab your favorite apples. Choose a crunchy variety. My go-to is Honey Crisp, but here’s a good list if you’re undecided. A good estimate is half an apple per kid.
Slice up the apples into wedges and soak in salt water, before rinsing them off and drying them. This hack keeps them from browning. No kidding – here’s a cool article on how it works.
Next, you’ll want a large, flat dish. Something easy to stack food on. You’ll also want a variety of small jars and dishes, which you’ll save for filling with mini-sized treats. Pinch jars, like these, are great. Or, swing by Target and find some 4 ounce mason jars. If you have a Daiso close to you, soy sauce dishes are also a fun size for contents!
Now, here’s the fun part – grab your favorite toppings. Meg and I thought about what we’d like to put on our own caramel apples, and we used some famous examples as inspiration. We grabbed these ingredients for our board:
- toffee
- salted peanuts
- mini chocolate chips
- crushed Oreos
- sprinkles
- mini marshmallows
- candied pecans
- caramel sauce
Ensure your toppings are small enough so they stick onto the apples, or crush them up so they’re bite-size. The easiest method is to put them in a baggie and roll over them with a rolling pin. Pour the crushed contents into a tiny jar.
Finally, once everything set up, it’s time to start stacking! Stack the apples, caramel, and ingredients on your board. This is a true finger food and no toothpicks are needed for dipping. Have fun!
A few notes about the Caramel Apple Board…
- Need ideas on what to plate up? Mini candies are fun, so stash up on mini M&Ms and mini Reeces! We had some for the photoshoot, but in the commotion of getting everything photographed we, erm…. forgot to include them.
- If you’re at a loss of toppings, you can get creative! Remember, if the item is too big, you can always crush it into tinier pieces. Oreos, pretzels, and peanuts are all large things that crush up well.
- Grab an assortment of colored sprinkles and make each colored sprinkle have its own dish. Everyone can color code their apples now!
- Get a large, flat platter or plate for your board. We have something similar, to this one.
